Jim Leftwich, Chief Executive Officer
Jim Leftwich founded CHSI in 1996. Over his twenty-plus year career he has held management positions that have included Director of Risk Management for a multi-billion dollar retailer and President of a Wellpoint/ Blue Cross subsidiary organization. Mr. Leftwich has held Board positions on a number of private and non-profit companies and served for three years as the Chairman for the Emergency Physicians Insurance Company (EPIC), a national medical-malpractice insurance company, as well as Board seats on the Nevada Gaming and Hospitality Association, the Nevada Captive Insurance Association, and the TriState Medical Insurance Company. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest University and holds national accreditation as a “Senior Professional in Human Resources”.
G. Craig McCarty, President
In 2004, after serving on the Board for CHSI, Mr. McCarty agreed to come out of retirement and join the company full time as President. Mr. McCarty brings a wealth of experience to CHSI, having begun his insurance career in San Francisco in 1960 after his graduation from the University of Oregon. His career took him from underwriter for the Fidelity and Casualty Company of New York, through post graduate studies at Golden Gate College of Insurance, and on to management positions with international brokerage firm Johnson & Higgins. In 1981 Mr. McCarty joined UniCare Insurance Company as the Senior Vice President of Marketing. During that time he also founded Innovative Care Systems, a new paradigm Workers’ Compensation claim/loss control/wellness service delivery system.
Joe Burgess, Senior Executive Vice President
Mr. Burgess joined CHSI in 1996 shortly after the formation of the company. Mr. Burgess had over the previous decade worked with company founder Jim Leftwich and others in the California self-insured community to develop effective partnerships with health care providers in Workers’ Compensation. After joining CHSI, Mr. Burgess developed self-insured group operations in northern Nevada and built the company’s client service model. In 2003-2004, Mr. Burgess developed CHSI’s first California self-insured group, the California Restaurant Mutual Benefit Corporation, which is the state’s largest self-insured group program. Today he serves in a variety of roles, including strategic and tactical planning, regulatory relationships, new program development and client support. Mr. Burgess serves on the Workers’ Compensation Committee of the Self-Insurance Institute of America and is an Advisor to the Employers’ Fraud Task Force in California.
Eric Robinson, Chief Operating Officer, CHSI Technologies
Mr. Robinson joined CHSI as Vice President of Special Projects and Business Development in 2007. He brings more than 25 years of executive management experience developing and marketing software in vertical markets. Mr. Robinson’s accomplishments include the strategic redevelopment of numerous businesses, the creation and implementation of new product plans and the founding of successful software development enterprises. He brings a broad skill set to bear as COO of both CHSI and CHSI Technologies, an insurance administration solution provider founded by CHSI in 2010. He and his team strive to streamline operations by enhancing workflow automation, contributing to year over year revenue growth while reducing operational expenses. Mr. Robinson also led the transition of the Home Industries Self-Insured Group from the previous administrator, and still serves as Practice Leader for HISIG.
Ben Hernandez, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Hernandez brings to CHSI over 30 years of experience as a senior insurance financial executive. Following his service in the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Hernandez began his career at Ernst & Ernst, the predecessor of Ernst & Young. Subsequently, Mr. Hernandez was an executive with Transamerica Insurance and California Reinsurance before joining Unicare Insurance Company as it entered the California market. Rising to become Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Hernandez played an important role in the growth of UniCare from 1982 to 1994. After the purchase of Unicare by Wellpoint/Blue Cross, Mr. Hernandez moved into the brokerage community as a chief financial executive for a number of major companies. Mr. Hernandez continues to successfully blend his conceptual understanding of insurance financial operations with the needs of entrepreneurial and growth focused companies.
Lee Mashore, Vice President of Information Technology Services
Mr. Mashore joined CHSI in 2000 as the Vice President of IT after a successful career as a technology consultant and as a Senior Partner and Principal at Networks, Inc. He has a broad range of experience with computer network operating systems and productivity software applications. Since Joining CHSI, Mr. Mashore has developed and implemented the CHSI Connections Management System, a patent-pending software application for the management of risk pools. His responsibilities include technical sales, Connections client implementation and support, technical team management, coaching and mentoring.
